Nowadays, lots of young people like me have difficulty finding what they’ll be doing in the future. Some either don’t know how to find it or have already picked the wrong job for themselves. That becomes burden on them eventually and they reach a point where they don’t want to do their current job anymore or become pessimistic. It is unbearable, that’s a fact.
Since I was 9 years old, I’ve tried many things to be good at. First I went for music and tried playing an instrument, then it seemed boring to me and I decided to try something else. I realized that I genuinely like listening to electronic music and admire those who produce them. Therefore, I thought it could be inspiring for me and began learning some music production softwares. I watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube but it didn’t take me too long to realize that I suck at it as well. It was a huge disappointment for me and I began to think that I wasn’t good at the thing I like the most. Afterwards, I accepted the fact that although music was a great passion, it just wasn’t for me and it was not the only field to give it a shot.
Later on, I became interested in languages, communicating with other people around the globe with no difficulty seemed like a perfect idea to broaden my mind, my vision and to change my way of seeing life. Then I started learning English as a first foreign language, I bought myself some books to study it and made some friends online to practice my English. As the time passed, I came to realize that I was good at communicating people regardless of their background. I just really like chatting with them. I told them my stories, everything about my life. I also heard a bunch of stories from all of my friends and with their help as well I have been making progress steadily since then. I am also good enough at communicating in my own language as well, nevertheless, as I was an introvert person then, I didn’t realize that until I made those friends online. Communicating easily is a great skill to acquire, but it is just an ‘ability’ rather than a ‘passion’ or a ‘career’. So I thought I could use this skill in a suitable field as a handy tool.
That’s how I got into digital marketing world. I love communicating, so I thought I could improve it and start marketing some sort of product, I might interest people with words and I could leave an impression on them. The problem was I didn’t I have a product to show people. Later on, I applied for a startup for the marketing position. I got accepted and started working there. It was great working under a company, something concrete, something to show people what we are. I tried to learn many things about marketing including online marketing, SEO, secrets of the keywords of a website, Google Analytics, E-Mail marketing and so on… Showing the people what we have as a product seemed impressive to me, it still does! Although it was a small startup, I had the opportunity to improve myself as much as possible.
At some point, another company called Ilao offered me to work as marketing strategist. I got so excited and accepted it. Ilao is a technology partner for the new enterprises, startups or companies. We help them create their products. Whether it is about mobile application or website, we can handle them all including their design apart from the technical part. I genuinely love what I do. Now there are tons of opportunities for me to improve myself more and more.
At first, I wanted to be musician, then a producer, however, I ended up being a marketing strategist. The process of pursuing a career that you are passionate about is a lesson for all of us. You’ve got to reach to the point where you say ‘Lesson learned’. Take a look at what you like doing in your daily routine, analyze your strenghts, you can even make a list of them, take notes and link them to the job that is suitable for you and start searching for it. It’s never too late.
